EMPI students accompanied by Prof. G. Kathuria visited GOONJ’s head office and their processing unit at Sarita Vihar, New Delhi on 22nd November, 2013. GOONJ is an NGO involved in a number of human welfare and humanitarian initiatives in India.

The EMPI team took along a truck load of items which included blankets, clothes, toys, stationary, shoes, warm clothes etc. collected by EMPI students through their month long donation awareness campaign “SAHYOG” and handed over to the Goonj authorities. The students were taken for a guided tour of the processing unit and observed the processing of donated items from receiving the items to dispatching of items to the needy people.

The EMPI team observed the process of receiving, sorting, repairing, stitching, customizing, packaging and dispatching of donated material. The impressive part was the optimum utilization of all the donated material in very creative and innovative ways. Almost everything was being recycled, reprocessed, utilizing every bit of received material leaving zero wastage.

Prof. Kathuria and the students met and interacted with Mr. Anshu Gupta, Founder of Goonj. Mr. Gupta had a very informal discussion with the students regarding their future plans and gave them several points to ponder. He also assured the team for visiting the EMPI campus in the near future to have a larger interaction with the student community.
